The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan, has published an updated version of its guidance for weather-based landscape irrigation control systems.

The standard is an updated version of the original document that “describes a test method to determine an irrigation controller’s ability to respond to weather and conditions found within the typical landscape.”

The updated version “clarifies formulas and terms used in the testing method to evaluate the performance characteristics of irrigation control devices. It applies to devices that incorporate sensors or programming technology that responds to real-time environmental conditions to modify irrigation schedules as plant needs change,” according to ASABE.

Members of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers can download the guidance for free, while nonmembers can purchase it from the society’s technical library for a fee of $75.
