The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a $115,000 grant from TSMC Arizona for irrigation system upgrades at Madison Park and Los Olivos Park. The upgrades include the installation of smart irrigation controllers, master valves and flow sensors.
“Investments like these help Phoenix use water more efficiently while maintaining the quality of our public spaces,” said Max Wilson, Phoenix’s Water Resources Management Advisor, in the city’s news release. “Smart irrigation systems allow us to apply water only when and where it is needed, reducing waste and supporting the City’s long-term water conservation goals.”
The smart controllers will allow staff to remotely shut down or skip an irrigation system, a critical feature during monsoon season. City officials estimate the upgrades will save about 81,000 gallons of water every time an irrigation cycle is skipped.
