DuPage Forest Preserve’s $14.9 million renovation of Maple Meadows will replace the aging irrigation system.

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is preparing to invest nearly $14.9 million in a sweeping renovation of Maple Meadows golf course in Wood Dale, with a major focus on modernizing the course’s irrigation system. According to The Daily Herald, the forest preserve board is expected to vote  on a contract with Wadsworth Golf Construction to carry out the upgrades.

The project includes a complete reworking of the course layout and infrastructure, but one of its most significant components is the installation of a new, high-efficiency irrigation system. The current system has reached the end of its useful life after nearly 30 years of operation, and its deterioration was cited by forest preserve officials as a key driver of the overhaul.

Forest Preserve President Daniel Hebreard emphasized the ecological potential of the investment, noting that improvements identified in the district’s 54-page site plan will expand wetlands, increase floristic quality and enhance stormwater management. The irrigation upgrade is expected to reduce water waste and long-term maintenance costs, aligning with the district’s broader goals of environmental stewardship and financial sustainability.

Ed Stevenson, who leads the district’s golf operations, said the upgraded system will make course maintenance more cost-effective and efficient, ultimately helping to keep greens fees affordable for residents.

Construction is scheduled to begin following the 2025 golf season.
