New York State is offering contractors incentives to purchase electric landscape equipment. The new legislation establishes a rebate program to help irrigation and landscape contractors transition from gas-powered to battery-powered equipment.

The program will provide point-of-sale rebates for eligible purchases or leases by commercial irrigation and landscaping businesses, schools, local governments, universities and nonprofit organizations. Qualifying equipment includes a number of industry-related battery-operated tools.

The law takes effect immediately, but program regulations and rebate details must still be developed before contractors can use the program. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will determine the total budget and available rebate amounts.
