Reminder: NY now requires WaterSense spray bodies for irrigation

If you’re involved in landscape irrigation in New York, take note that starting with products manufactured after June 26, 2023, only WaterSense-labeled spray sprinkler bodies may be sold or installed in the state.
To help clarify the rules, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority recently released a fact sheet summarizing the key requirements.

If you’re involved in landscape irrigation in New York – whether you’re a contractor, distributor, or supplier – take note that starting with products manufactured after June 26, 2023, only spray sprinkler bodies that meet the performance, testing and certification requirements outlined in the Final Rule may be sold or installed in the state.

New York’s efficiency standards, established under the state’s appliance and equipment regulations, require that spray bodies manufactured on or after this date meet the performance and testing criteria outlined in the WaterSense Specification for Spray Sprinkler Bodies (Version 1.0). While WaterSense itself is a voluntary standard, New York has taken action to require it for this product. Each product will need to be certified to the State Appliance Standards Database (SASD) in order to be legally sold or offered for sale, leased or offered for lease, or rented or offered for rent in the state.

To help clarify the rules, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority recently released a fact sheet summarizing the key requirements. NYSERDA’s full fact sheet is available here (PDF).

The following states and jurisdictions have the same standard requirements as New York: California, Colorado, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
