The City of College Station, Texas, has introduced a new irrigation rebate program to encourage water conservation during peak summer usage.
Announced at a city council meeting alongside a proclamation recognizing July as Smart Irrigation Month, the program offers homeowners a rebate of 50% of the cost of smart irrigation equipment—up to $500, according to reporting from KBTX3.
City Water Resource Coordinator Jennifer Nations emphasized the importance of reducing outdoor water waste, noting that a single irrigation cycle can use as much water as an average home does in an entire winter month.
While recent rainfall has helped alleviate drought concerns, officials cautioned residents not to become complacent.
The rebate is intended to promote more efficient water use as the community continues to grow. More information and an application form are available here.
