Graduate students preparing for careers in turfgrass research, education and sustainability can apply for financial assistance through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s Dr. James Watson Fellowship Program.
Funded by The Toro Company, the program awards up to three $5,000 fellowships annually to students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees related to golf course maintenance. Eligible applicants must be in the second year of a recognized graduate program in turfgrass science or a related field and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
Candidates should plan to pursue careers in areas such as turfgrass research, sustainability, innovation, instruction or extension related positions. Applicants must also demonstrate achievement in research, teaching or other graduate-level work.
Applications require essays, a resume or CV, research summary, academic transcripts and professional recommendations. Applications are accepted through Oct. 1, 2026.
