Contractors can return outdated controllers and receive a discount on eligible smart controller purchases at participating SiteOne branches. In 2026, more than 10,000 controllers were traded in for recycling. Upgrading to smart controllers is one of several best practices that can reduce outdoor water use by 30%.
Manufacturer support from Hunter and Rain Bird helps make the program possible. SiteOne partners with Blue Star Recyclers, a nonprofit that provides living-wage employment opportunities for neurodivergent adults and ensures controllers are processed responsibly.
Since 2023, SiteOne’s recycling program has recycled more than 26,000 controllers and kept about 26 tons of e-waste out of landfills.
