Golf de La Grande Motte gets irrigation upgrade

Golf de La Grande Motte, a 42-hole golf complex on the French Mediterranean coast, has installed a new irrigation system. As reported by Richard Humphreys for Golf Course Architecture, the modernization focused on optimizing water use while maintaining course quality.

The golf complex, featuring two 18-hole courses and a six-hole layout, was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones in the 1980s. To improve irrigation, Golf de La Grande Motte partnered with irrigation designer Frédéric Quillien of K Consult and water technicians from Arrosage Concept, according to GCA. The new system includes 1,500 sprinklers with high-performance nozzles and a smart controller system, allowing precise water adjustments based on real-time weather data.

“Despite challenges like trenching difficulties due to the proximity to sea level, the greenkeeping team optimized irrigation schedules and achieved significant water savings,” Roland Demonty, area sales manager at Toro, told GCA
