Nampa, Meridian to shut down pressurized irrigation Oct. 6

Residents are reminded not to switch to potable water for lawn irrigation to avoid higher utility bills and because the city does not maintain sufficient domestic supply.
District deliveries wrap Oct. 7; officials urge residents not to irrigate with potable water.

According to reporting by CBS2 News, the City of Nampa will close its pressurized irrigation system for the season on Monday, Oct. 6, with Meridian’s system shutting down the same day. The Pioneer Irrigation District and Boise–Kuna Irrigation District will end their irrigation seasons on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and the conclusion of district allotments drives the municipal shutdown schedule.

City officials note Nampa’s annual irrigation assessments are based on property square footage because irrigation water is not metered, and season length varies with water availability.

Residents are reminded not to switch to potable water for lawn irrigation, both to avoid higher utility bills and because the city does not maintain sufficient domestic supply to backfill landscape demand.

The Water and Irrigation Division also cautions against operating city-owned irrigation valves when blowing out sprinkler lines; customers unsure which valves are city vs. private should contact the division before making any adjustments.
