The Irrigation Association, Fairfax, Virginia, announced the results of its 2021 Pitch Competition Dec. 9, with Simple Flow being crowned the winner of the landscape category.

Nine startup irrigation technology companies went head-to-head in the competition’s agriculture and landscape categories Dec. 8 during the IA’s 2021 Irrigation Show and Education Week in San Diego. Each company presented their products on the Irrigation Show floor. A panel of judges evaluated the quality of their presentation, the product, market need and economic feasibility.

The landscape category winner, the Aqua Line Series by Simple Flow, includes a programmable actuator that mounts to any existing standard ¼-turn ball valve. It’s securely controlled by a company-specific remote, which provides irrigation contractors control of main water shutoff without needing to enter a home or business.

The other tech startup companies that competed in the landscape category included:

• In Deep Irrigation and its Root Quencher deep watering device that is able to sustainably meet a plant’s needs

• QCSC and its Service Buddy, which can replace a sprinkler valve’s diaphragm in a completely dry valve box after properly flushing the sprinkler valve

• No-Digg Manufacturing and its SprinkWorks, which allows for instant head replacement in the event of failure without ever digging again.

The pitch competition’s ag category winner was Soiltech Wireless.
